Find a Penny Doll Card
  1. Cut one 8" x 10" rectangle from white cardstock. Turn rectangle horizontally, score a vertical line down the center, and fold in half. Trace patterns onto tracing paper. With the card fold on the left, transfer the outline of dress, legs, and shoes onto the card front, referring to pattern placement guide for guidance.
  2. Print a copy of the vintage photo selected (head and neck only). Place the printed photo image along the top of the dress outline on the card front. Trace around edges of printed photo image. With card folded, cut around entire outline of head, dress, legs, and shoes. Use chalk to color head and legs.
  3. Transfer the dress pattern onto My Favorite Things patterned paper and cut out. Adhere onto card front, then machine straight-stitch a line 1/8" around the inside edges.
  4. Trace the shoe pattern onto tracing paper, then transfer twice onto Fate patterned paper. Place one shoe on each foot, then adhere with edges aligned. Punch a 1/8"-dia. hole in each shoe where indicated on pattern. Use eyelet setter tool to set an antique eyelet into each hole. Cut two 5" lengths from natural hemp cord. Insert one end of cord through each hole, then tie ends into a bow.
  5. To create the apron, use decorative edged scissors to cut a 3" x 6" rectangle from fabric doily, making sure to retain one hemmed edge with trim. Thread needle with natural hemp cord and sew a basting stitch across the top of apron 3/8" in from the edge. Pull thread to gather the apron. Punch two 1/16"-dia. holes in dress on card front where indicated on pattern. Insert one end of the hemp cord through hole on the right side of card front and pull back through hole on the left side. Tie ends into a bow on the left side of apron as shown in project photo.
  6. Use small heart punch to punch a heart from Sateen patterned paper. Adhere to right side of doll just above the apron.
  7. Computer print or handwrite sentiment (“find a penny pick it up and all the day you’ll have good luck” used here) onto Thankful patterned paper. Cut a 1-1/4" x 2-1/4" rectangle around words as shown. Punch a 3/16"-dia. hole on the left of tag, then use the safety pin to attach to apron as shown in project photo.
Find a Penny Doll Card Envelope
  1. Trace the house pattern onto tracing paper, then transfer onto white cardstock. Score and fold along dotted lines.
  2. Cut one 1-1/8" x 5-1/2" rectangle from Phorest patterned paper, one 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" rectangle from Clouds in the Park patterned paper, one 2-1/2" x 4" rectangle from Night patterned paper, and one 2" x 3-3/4" rectangle from Polar Blue patterned paper. Adhere Phorest rectangle across the top of the card, trimming ends even with sides of roof, then adhere Clouds in the Park rectangle flush with roof as shown. Adhere Polar Blue rectangle onto Night rectangle as shown, then center and adhere flush to the bottom edge of card front. Referring to project photo for guidance, punch a 1/8"-dia. hole on the right side of door, insert antique brad into hole and bend prongs open on back.
  3. Cut one 1-1/2" x 2" rectangle from Night patterned paper and adhere 7/8" above door, referring to pattern for placement. Open the card, then use the craft knife to cut a 1-1/4" x 1-3/4" rectangle from the center of the Night rectangle.
  4. Cut two 1" x 1-1/2" rectangles from brown corrugated paper for shutters. Adhere one shutter to each side of the window at a slight angle as shown in project photo.
  5. Fold the card, then punch a 3/16"-dia. hole where indicated on pattern. Use the eyelet setter tool to set a nickel eyelet into each hole. Fold and adhere tabs around back edge of house. Place doll card into envelope with heart and apron showing through the window. Insert one end of red hemp cord into eyelets and tie ends into a bow to secure.
