What's Inside the Spring 2009 Issue of Paper Creations™
Spring 2009 Issue
                          Spring 2009 Issue

From the Editor
As I sit here tucked away in my office, there’s a fierce winter wind rattling my window and the chill forced me to turn on my little electric heater. So I must confess that I’m eagerly looking forward to the arrival of spring, although wintering in Florida or Arizona would be better. But if I did that, I’d miss out on spring…a season which I truly love.

There’s something special about spring, especially when you’ve come through the cold and dark days of January and February without serious frostbite. I really do enjoy seeing tender green shoots poking their heads up through the snow, and there’s nothing more joyful than watching all the trees burst into a frothy profusion of pink and white buds. Right here would be a nice segue in telling you about some great best friends card ideas we have in this issue…buds…buddies… get it?...but we don’t have any BFF cards this issue.

What we do have, however, is a wonderful collection of love cards that are romantic and playful in nature. Blessed Sentiments is an absolutely stunning collection of Easter cards by Diane Noble that you’re sure to drool over (well, I certainly did). And while we’re on the subject of drooling, our Special Delivery cards are for all those darling lambkins born this spring. We devoted an entire section to baby and a special “Secret Writer” page with the cutest verses that you can use for the inside of each card. And if you have a sweet tooth, you must visit the Sweet Shop where there’s a whole lot of “eye candy” going on. I must confess that I had so much fun with these ideas…really good stuff created by BasicGrey and Ellison (need I say more?).

Well, maybe one more word…enjoy!

Playful Love Cards
A touch of sugar and a touch of spice, the collection of cards featured here cater to the more playful side of affairs of the heart.

Flowering Hearts and Hugs and Kisses Bookmark

Fanciful Whimsies Whimsies
In the fantasy world, nothing is ordinary. What you think is, isn’t. The unexpected is always at the ready. Playful twists and turns are part of this imaginary place that make you want to join in, and no one knows fantasy better than Sandra Evertson. Designer Sue Roddis created a spirited and absolutely delightful collection of cards and a gift box using several of Sandra’s stamped designs, and the result is pure, fantabulous fun!

High Society
There was a time when society paid strict adherence to being properly attired at all times. A well-dressed woman wouldn’t dream of leaving home without wearing a fashionable hat and gloves to match. Inspired by yesteryear’s mainstay in women’s apparel, the stylish hat cards featured combine classic design with festive spring accents.

Pretty Pastels
A pastel color palette in varying shades of pink, lavender, blues and greens was selected in creating the lovely spring cards and tags featured here. Ribbons, paper flowers, charms, buttons and rhinestones are sparingly used, resulting in designs that are as fresh and clean as spring itself.

Good LuckSigns of Spring
Watercolor paints are the secret behind these beautifully colored stamped images. The amount of water added to the paint colors determines the size of the paint splatters. Adding more water dilutes the paint’s intensity and results in large, pale-colored splatters, while less water yields small speck-like splatters. Whatever the preferred choice, this technique provides a very pretty mottled effect to your cards.

Spring Blooms
Petite flower and leaf images were randomly stamped in a circle to create a casual arrangement of brightly colored spring blooms, while a tiny bird chirps a sweet sentiment that’s sure to make mom smile.

Good Luck
Dainty in appearance, a cluster of clover blossoms grace this crisp green and white card. Small black brads crown each blossom's center, while an antique silver button brad extends wishes for good luck and adds just the right amount of contrast and dramatic punch.Easter Wishes

Blessed Sentiments
Serenely simple in line and sentiment, this elegant collection of cards quietly sends forth Easter blessings and wishes to family and friends.

Special Delivery
Welcoming a new baby to your circle of family and friends is always an exciting and special event. The cards featured here are as sweet as the new baby they’re created for.

Rubber Stamp Round-Up
Book reviewers, movie critics, and David Letterman may be able to come up with Top Ten lists, but when it comes to rubber stamp companies, it’s impossible to keep it brief. We lassoed stampers from around the country and here is a round-up of some of their favorites. If you want to help us cook up the next list, send an email to editors@papercreationsmag.com with the subject line “Round-Up II” and include the company name(s) and website(s).

If you want to make cards or other hand-stamped items to sell, check with the companies whose images you plan to use so you do not violate their copyright policies. “Angel” companies allow you to sell what you hand-stamp, but be aware that not all angel company policies are the same.

Sweetheart Boxes
A vision of lush roses, softly muted stripes, and delicately dotted patterned papers is just the beginning in creating these sweet little nothings. A fine dusting of iridescent glitter, randomly strewed rhinestones, and pearly clusters stir memories of an earlier time when the art of wrapping your gift was just as important as the gift itself.

Giant Folding CardVictorian Fan Album
This sweet Victorian fan album is the perfect project for recycling all those bits and pieces that, while too pretty to discard, take up precious storage space. Select three cardstocks in the same color family, a few scraps of vellum and floral stickers, and let your imagination take over.

Giant Template Cards
Spring has sprung! Fold-it Templates make these glorious, oversized flower cards easy to create in no time at all. Here’s a perfect opportunity to transform all those leftover papers and embellishments into fun cards that are sure to fit any occasion you have in mind.

Secret Writer
Most of us know how it feels to be at a loss for words, especially when we need to include the perfect sentiment into our handmade cards. When you’re in doubt, or simply not sure of what to say or how to say it, let our Secret Writer lend a creative hand. In this issue, we present a sweet collection of carefully selected verses just for baby.
