What's Inside the Spring 2011 Issue of Paper Creations™

From the Editor

This issue of Paper Creations is also brimming with glorious spring projects. Even though the weather is still a little cold where I live (and for many of you as well), I know I'm going to feel (and you will too) like it's a new season.

Our Flower Topiary is replacing the poinsettia that I have in an old country bucket, and my patched wooden bowl filled with clove-studded pomanders is giving way to a colorful collection of decorated eggs. And, not to be boastful, I really did enjoy creating those confectioner's cones! I shared three of them in this issue, but I think I'm going to make smaller ones and make a dozen or so to hang along with the decorated eggs on my Easter tree (a winning combination of color and whimsy).

Enjoy!,

Thanksgiving Cards
Bunny Card

Easter Blessings
Not quite as quick as a bunny to create, but as sweet as a bunny to both give and receive, this Easter card is a beautiful example of matted, layered, and stitched perfection.

Bunny Card
Wearing a little pink vest and carrying a mini bouquet of blossoms, this little bunny card is just too cute for words!

Little Miracle and Little One Cards
One design shown two ways. Soft pastel colors in blue and pink, tiny bows, and rhinestone crowned cut-out blossoms create these simply sweet cards for babies or moms-to-be.

Welcome Little One
Bright blue tempered with chocolate brown sets the tone for this welcome baby card. Mini silver pearls accentuate both the simple sentiment and a "shooting star" bouquet tied up with silver cording.

Baby to Be
It might be easier to find the perfect pink or blue card or gift for moms-to-be who already know if their baby is going to be a little boy or girl. But there are still many who prefer to wait and be surprised. This card is beautifully neutral and would be perfect for either happy outcome.

The Magic of Christmas
Happy Birthday Crown

Sweet Baby Collection
Delicately matched patterned papers set the tone for these darling baby cards. Colored markers further enhance the sweetest images of baby animals, while buttons and bows provide the perfect finishing touches.

Die-Cut Sentiments
Three-dimensional embellishments are the focal point for each of the cards presented in this collection. Complementing patterned papers from DCWV Nana's Kids' Paper stack and various shapes cut using Spellbinders Nestabilities help to unify these individual, yet related, cards designed by Deborah March.

Miss You
Kraft cardstock is so versatile and teams up nicely with any color combination desired. The botanical stamp was embossed, then distressed and wiped clean for added pop.

Happy Birthday Crown
Too precious for words! Wearing a tiny crown and little checked dress, this sweet image is sure to make you smile no matter what your age.

Mother's Day
Mother's Day Cards

I Simply Adore You
Who can resist making this adorable tiny-print patterned paper and crochet lace-trimmed card? The inside sentiment says it all: "You make my world happy."

You Brighten My Day
The sweet flowers featured on this cheerful card were created with Spellbinders Presto Punch. Foam squares were used to layer the assorted sized flowers for maximum effect.

Happy Moments Birthday
Cocoa brown, aqua, and rose colored papers come to life with crisp white accents. A bright white scalloped border and polka dot ribbon are the perfect finishing touches.

Flower Cake
Frosted with delicate scrolls, glittered dots, and miniature roses, this birthday card can be described as "yummy"!

Mini Thank You Cards
These delightful mini thank-you notes are quick to create and are perfect for making up by the batch. Simply change out the stamped image on the center circles for a fresh-faced look for each card you make.

Embossed Wildflowers
From soft pastels to bold red and black color combinations, embossing varied fern and wildflower imagery enriches this strikingly elegant collection of cards.

So Sweet Collection
Imbued with springtime fresh colors and imagery, the cards featured on these two pages are super quick and easy to make.

Get Well Soon
The prescription order is dutifully recorded on the mini clipboard: Get well soon!

Straight from the Heart
        You're Just the Best

You're Just the Best
When you really want to show you care, this best friends card expresses your feelings beautifully.

Spring Blooms
Large and luscious, oversized flowers are crumbled, lacquered, and cracked to add texture and dimension to the lively collection of spring cards featured here. Centers are crowned with fabric buttons covered in rhinestone-accented floral and ladybug images.

So Fabulous
This striking card lives up to its sentiment by combining a filigree-like mini print and dainty stripe patterned paper, glittered heart, and brown velvet ribbon.

Papier Tole Rose Medley
These elegant cards are created from a three-dimensional sheet of rose designs, a multi-embossing and piercing stencil, and pad from Ecstasy Crafts. Stencils can be used over and over again, providing unique and personalized touches to all of your paper crafting projects.

Mother's Day Cards
Sweet sentiments are simply expressed with these lovely pink and moss colored Mother's Day cards.

Yipes, Stripes!
Coordinating designs incorporated into one sheet of stripe patterned paper offers endless possibilities. The challenge is to see just how many cards and techniques you can use to produce successful results. Off-white cardstock was used consistently throughout and the only embellishment was layered flower stickers with a glaze of glitter. Leftover chipboard Christmas ornaments are transformed into fun gift tags by using the remaining scraps of paper.

It's Your Birthday
Stamped images come to life with the addition of colored markers and embossing powders. They also are an easy and fun way for you to show your individual sense of style. As the card featured here surely proves, personalization is key.

Decorative Eggs
Easy to make, these decorative eggs are dressed in musical and newsprint-patterned tape, embellished with punched-out and fringe-rolled flowers, and crowned with pearl centers.

Flower Topiary and Egg
Paint chip samples and coordinated patterned paper were used to create this colorfully punched flower topiary and decorative egg. A nice touch is using pearl-headed pins to secure the assorted button centers.

Brimming with nostalgic charm, the sweet shadowbox frames featured here combine muted pastel papers, vintage images, and antique jewel embellishments reminiscent of a gentler time. Glittered Spring Flower

Baby Cards and Favors
The perfect baby shower favor or baby gift topper, these sweet shoes are sure to receive a ton of oohs and aahs. Baby cards are made to match each set of shoes: dotted pink dress with lace ruffle for a little girl, and baby blue overalls complete with small pocket for a little boy. Reduce the size of the patterns to make a gift tag, or enlarge the patterns to make a stunning table centerpiece for a buffet or gift table.

Glittered Spring Flower
Glittered and jeweled, this pretty posy will provide a continual bloom on your springtime table or window sill.

Confectioner's Cones
Fun and easy to make, these delightful cones are perfect to use as favors, gift toppers, or decorations for a variety of celebrations. Cardstock is used for the base, then I layer one, two, or more patterned papers, ripping and antiquing edges as I go. For me, the fun part is seeing what I can use from my boxes of leftover trinkets. One of the cones is plain, using only a jeweled pin-like brad as an accent. Another cone is trimmed with paper lace and a single silk rose, while the last cone is wrapped with metallic copper embroidery floss and embellished with three-dimensional glittered flowers. I fill the completed cones with colored filler and my favorite candies. You can change the size of the cone by enlarging or reducing the pattern as desired.

Happy Birthday Trio
Bright pink ribbon and stamped party imagery team up with lime green patterned paper and sparkling white cardstock to create this happy birthday trio.

Believe in Yourself Gift Bag and Card
Strips of cast-off denim jeans add a touch of the unexpected on this lively gift bag and card set.
